Are you doing today what you wanted to in your childhood or you thought about doing while planning to make your career? If your answer is affirmative, you have got guts and are lucky. But if you find yourself in the list of those who gave their answer in negative, don't worry because the list is endless. Even I am in the same list which consists of the persons unhappy with their current job or career decisions. OK, we would talk about this later. Here we would stick around 3 idiots, which is the inspiration of this piece.
If you have not seen the film, I suggest you to go ASAP as it may help you to decide about your future plans. The film points out the biggest drawback of our education system which produce more executioneres and less thinkers. The students just try to pass the competitive exams and climb the stairs of premier institutions like IIMs and IITs. But their goal is not to learn, only to 'EARN' and consequently our best brains do not think about teaching or becoming scientist as a career option. 3 idiots raises this issue beautifully and in an entertaining way and obviously successfully broadcasted the message that 'It is better to be an idiot than a stupid'.
Through the stories of 3 friends of different backgrounds and of quite different outlook towards life, the film tells you about the hardships and the pressure faced by the students of middle class in our society. Under the influence of family members, they are forced to follow the path which has nothing to do with their interests or passion. They chase the money mindlessly and later regret their decision. Aamir, Madhvan and Sharman have played their role beautifully and at no point of time, you feel the film making you bored. But Omi 'Chatur' makes you feel his presence and so do Boman 'Virus'. Though Kareena and Mona didn't have much to do in the film except to create some drama and singing some songs.
The thing which could be avoided, I believe, was the presentation of Sharman's family in a funny way. Many a times, you feel the fun element quite harsh and cruel . Also the length of the film could easily be curtailed as many a scenes are unnecessarily long. Excep these the film is a good entertainment package with brilliant camera work, diverse music scores and relevant dialogues.
The team of Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani has given quality products earlier too and made a special place by making the film with social message. And how can we forget Aamir who first with Taare Zameen Par and now with 3 Idiots has got success to bring into notice the requirement to change the existing style of teaching and providing education. One of his dialogues of the film aptly applies on him that don't chase success but yearn for excellence and succes will chase you.

No doubt 3idiots is a good movie but along with students there parents should watch this.
Film shows that if anything happend to student the first thing in his mind is "Sucide".But film tells that these are not "suciedes" but "Murders". and our parents are Criminals. So parents should watch this movie.
Dear Dheeraj, you have nicely summed up the intention of the film. However, I have a problem with the execution of the film. It is terribly long. The second half tries to make a hero out of Rancho which for a brilliant student looks forced.
Also, Sharman and Madhavan have been reduced to mere side kicks. Fortunately for Omi Vaidya, because of his brilliant act and also well etched character, he holds his ground in front of other actors.
Apart from a couple of smart liners from Amir about the flawed education system, there is nothing concrete about how it can be altered.
The film has its moments but I really find nothing funny about the ragging scene, nothing funny about the scene where Chatur makes a innocent flawed delivery...this kind of humour is expected from David Dhawan, not Raju Hirani.
Smriti, I agree with you about the points you have raised. I believe you are talking about last half an hour, in which Rancho shows his super-human ability and then the HRIDAY PARIVARTAN of Virus. But you know na in Hindi films, you can't expect flawless experience.
So far the steps to remove the flaws in education system are concerned, all of us know that it isn't an easy task as you have to fight the whole system and morever for this you need a lot of will power. The film gives us some hints about the steps which could be taken though it doesn't elaborate those. I think if you do this, the length of the film would be increased and more importantly the film serves its purpose to convey the message, which it intends to.
Yeah, the speech of Chatur may not be as 'clean' funny as you were expecting, but I think behind that scence, there was also a message that if you don't understand the things, you should shut up your mouth.
:)
