This RAAJNEETI won't give power to you, Prakash Jha.

I don't know which thing in Raajneeti prompted our well known and established film critics to announce it as a four starred film. I am compelled to think it also as one Rajneetik Chaal (conspiracy) over Raajneeti to make it hit. But alas, the film seriously lacks the fire which can burn its flame for too long. I am disappointed to see such a weak film by none other than Prakash Jha, who have produced strong and mind boggling films like Gangajal, Apharan and Mrityudand, which are in themselves comments of our social and political scenario. Prakash is himself a politican and he must know the working style in the game of politics (especially in the heartland of Bihar, UP and MP) but his understanding and impression are nowhere in the Raajneeti. Anyone who has even a small idea of politics in our Hindi belt, would hardly approve the film.
Loosely based on Mahabharata, Rajneeti tries to present the current political system in our country. It tries to show how cruelly and heartlessly the politicians use and misuse the system to wipe out their rivals and mix up with corporates to grab the power at any cost. In bit and pieces, the film makes you think about the degradation of our political system, how the dynasty rules over the dedication and hard work of political workers, how polity has become the game of money and muscle power and why it is so hard to enter it for a man of conscience even today? But throughout the film, you predict the events as the script make those quite obvious and it makes you feel that film could have been better scripted. Also in the film, the media has been portrayed so funny and lousy that you just pity on the channels who become ready to let their names use for such ridiculous, annoying and false presentation.
So far acting is concerned, Nana Patekar (as the modern days' Krishna) and Manoj Bajpayee (as the Duryodhana) succeeded to win your heart by their performances. Katreena showed her mettle and certainly can emerge as an actress even in not so glamorous role, but she still needs some more roles to cut above the rest leading actresses today. Rest of the main starcasts doesn't impress you so much. Ranbir had a good chance to show his strength, but his character did need more space to develop and because of this lacuna, he ended up as an unconvincing character who changed his forms and faces too shrewdly and frequently. But, Nasiruddin Shah and Shruti Sheth were wasted in the movie. I don't understand why Nasir was picked up for the miniscule role of a revolutionary leader who escapes the political scene merely on account of making love with the daughter of his political rival. (Hello, give us a break, this never happens in politics).
Being a political story, there must be some dialogues which are long lasting and punching but hardly you can find one. And sometimes in the film, those are so ridiculous that you feel to just slap the character for delivering the same. The film is long but music could not find its proper place which again is a pity. After the interval, you wait for the film to end and here lies the failure of Prakash Jha, who have not been able to make the audience sit for the whole film.
